My name is David Kent, I was born and grew up in Brighton, Sussex. As a child, my grandfather would tell me tall stories of how his family were gypsies arriving in Brighton in horse-drawn caravans, of a relative who wanted to know whether her blindness was hereditary so undertook research which was said to prove the family descended from Viking warriors, and of Brighton in the days when it had a fishing fleet which landed the catch on the seafront for my grandfather's family to hawk around the town.
